Futsal · Ages 5–7 · Newberg, Oregon
A game their size.
Better touches, every session. We’re gauging interest for our first season, starting late August 2027.
Why it suits 5-to-7-year-olds
They learn to control it with the sole.
Futsal teaches kids to stop and roll the ball with the bottom of the foot. It keeps the ball close, so a small player stays in charge of it.
In international futsal, 77% of passes were received with the sole of the foot. Yiannaki et al., Biology of Sport, 2020 (elite adult players).
The ball stays on the floor.
A futsal ball is heavier and bounces low. It lands with a wump and rolls, so it stays at their feet instead of flying past them.
Dropped from 2 m, a futsal ball bounces 50–65 cm; a size-4 soccer ball, 110–160 cm. FIFA Futsal Laws of the Game, Law 2; FIFA ball testing manual, 2018.
Out of the sun, out of the rain, under the lights.
Fall rain and early dark don’t cancel a gym. Short games, a short rest, back on: every team rotates, so nobody sits for long.
